Repost from sockets thread - figured since this is basically about applet deployment, there might be someone who looks here but not there who might know the answer.

I have an applet designed to join a multicast group, but am receiving security errors. The multicast server is on the server where the web page came from. What do I need do to fix it?

I have the same applet working with one-to-one sockets with no problem. I've also spent a couple hours working on my first signed jar. I've never signed a jar before, but instructions seem simple enough. I'm wondering though about something I ran across that included a -selfcert /

well - it works - but I had to explicitly alter java security policy on my machine to do it.
