Hi all, I am preparing forp SCJP and I have this question? 1. I am preparing SCJP with SCJP 1.5 K&B Book. Suppose if i want to write 1.4, whether i have to go for SCJP 1.4? or this book is enough for both (1.4 and 1.5)...
The K & B 5.0 book is specifically for SCJP 5.0. There are topics in SCJP 1.4 which are no longer covered in the SCJP 5.0 book. So my advice is to get a K & B 1.4 book if you really want to do SCJP 1.4 for some reason.
The same here...I'm planning for 1.4 and I'm using K & B 1.5 book to prepare. Take care of some things like autoboxing, Math class methods, bit operators. The rest is less when compared to 1.5, you don't have to look at files, enums, generics.
If your funds are tight, I suppose you could use the 5.0 book to study for 1.4. Here are the issues I can think of:
- the 5.0 book doesn't cover the Math class - the 5.0 book doesn't cover bit shifting
For those two topics you'll have to find other study materials
The real problem I see is that there is LOTS of stuff in the 5.0 book that isn't on the 1.4 exam, and even worse, some of the stuff you can do in 5.0 is illegal in 1.4 - so you'd have to be REALLY careful!
As Bert suggests, using the 1.5 material when you are studying for the 1.4 exam is a really bad idea. Either go for the 1.5 exam or get some other material. You can find a truly awesome set of 1.4 notes at
