can anyone please suggest me whether scjp 1.4 is still valid?or whether is it essential to go for scjp 1.5 instead of scjp 1.4....

Hi,

NO its not like that.
you can appear in any scjp1.4 or 1.5, its your's choice.

But i will suggest you to go for SCJP 1.5.
