Hello, I am very new here and in fact have just registered. I have heard a lot about the kathy and bert books and even went to the local B&N just to check out these books. A lot of people here rave about the k&B book. I am wondering which book are they talking about? WHich is the book to refer to .. Head first Java or the certification guide.? I am planning on taking the SCJP 5 certification and I see all the books catering to 1.4. Is there a complrehensive source for studying for the 1.5 exam topics? Will appreciate any insight in this matter

Gayatri,

Welcome to the JavaRanch...

This forum is for the discussion of certification results. We actually have a forum dedicated to SCJP certification -- which I will move this topic to.

Hi Gayatri,

If you are preparing for SCJP 1.5, you can buy "SCJP 5 Exam Study Guide" By Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates". The exam code for SCJP 1.5 is 310-055. This will be mentioned on the cover of the book as well.

If you are from India, the publication is by dreamtech press.

Thank You for your reply. I already have the Khalid Mughal book. I am hoping that these two together should be sufficient.

Hi Gayatri,

The Mughal book is fantastic, but it's for version 1.4. Mughal's 5.0 version isn't scheduled to be released until this summer.

I am also preparing for the SCJp. The K&B book is just for starters.
To do well on the exam here are my tips :

1. Absolutely essential to write a lot of code to explore stuff & ideas
2. Study the Mughal book; pretty good on the stuff that applies to SCJP 5
3. Work on a lot of Mock exams; I find Whiz lab exams tough but good
4. JavaRanch SCJP forum is good source for areas to look at
5. I also study Bruce Eckels book "Thinking in Java" for advanced ideas

Good luck

There are many topics on this forum that mentions the materials -- including this topic. Why do you need people to send you the materials, instead of downloading it yourself?

The original poster that offered the materials hasn't posted in weeks. When polled, not a single person stepped forward to say that they got the materials.

The other topics had to be closed, because it was merely acting like a honeypot for spammers -- a source of email addresses.

There is no problem with asking for materials, but I believe that we had already vetted this source to the point to determine that it is likely a dead end.
