Hi

I am new to Java and have some programming knowlede in C.
I am planning to write the certification for only one reason: CONFIDENCE

The first thing i want to know is:

1 ) Do i need any kind of work experience in writing SCJP
I knw work experience helps but can i pass certification without that?

2 ) Which of these should a fresher like me target?
SCJP 1.4 (310-035)
SCJP 1.5 (310-055)

Is there anything like SCJP 1.4 (310-035) is EASIER compared to SCJP 1.5 (310-055)

3) One of the most popular (and recommended) books for SCJP is
SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 5 Study Guide by Katherine Sierra and Bert Bates (K&B)

If i decide to appear for SCJP 1.4 (310-035) will this book be any helpful
or
Is there any similar book for SCJP 1.4

45 days is all i have to crack SCJP

Let me thank you all for the support you guys are providing for java aspirants like me

Thanks

- Rahul

Hi,

1- Yes you can pass the Certification without the work experience. In order to make the most knowledge gain, a little work experience is not wrong. The work experience may not only be in Java, if you have experience in C# for example (as in my case) the certification will give you a solid basics of the Java language and will reinforce your current programming skills.

2- Since the latest exam in SCJP is for Java 1.5 there is no reason to target Java 1.4. Before going to the exam answer questions for both 1.4 and 1.5.

3- I think this is the best book to prepare for SCJP. This book is really one of the best ever I have encountered in my life.

Good luck
