Wecome to Javaranch..
To search the answer of the question lets start with the Runnable interface. It contains only one method names

Thread class itself implements Runnable interface and hence implements the run method.

Welcome to JavaRanch!

The API documentation is an ideal resource to answer questions like this.

First, note that Runnable is an interface. Looking at Runnable's run method (which is its only method), we see that...

When an object implementing interface Runnable is used to create a thread, starting the thread causes the object's run method to be called in that separately executing thread.

Next, note that Thread is a class that implements Runnable. Looking at Thread's run method, we see that...

If this thread was constructed using a separate Runnable run object, then that Runnable object's run method is called; otherwise, this method does nothing and returns.
