Hello friends!
I observed people asking free ebook download links. And there are many posts getting locked/deleted. Why doesn't JavaRanch put some link(like FAQ) describing the reasons one shouldn't ask for such materials? Well, I hope they will do it soon..
For my fellow Indians that are asking free books, here are some reasons why you shouldn't ask:
1. In Indian subcontinent, books are generally and comparatively cost very very less than in most parts of the world. Thanks to our governments!
2. I purchased SCJP book only for 350 Rs after 35% discount. I think, it will become 8 USD.
3. In India, even if you get ebook, you will definitely print it one day. Do you know how much it costs to print? Around 1-5 Rs per page. Its better you calculate the total!
4. Additionally, you will go for binding as well.
5. What about the efforts?
6. Did you figure out how much less it costs in terms of money and efforts, to buy a ready-made, leagal copy of book?
Well, I hope, keeping such reasons in mind, people will never ask again for such illegal resources of books.
Thanks and never mind. Everyone needs to be reminded how good they are.

Actually, I haven't seen that question asked before, but it might have a place in our FAQ as a reminder.

The reason is simple: It's illegal to distribute copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder. We take this very seriously here at JavaRanch (especially since many of these books' authors are members of our community).

I am actually undecided with this. On one hand, I think it would be nice to write up a FAQ as a reminder. On the other hand, I don't think we should need to remind professional and future professional developers that illegal activities are not a good idea.

You don't think this makes sense?

FAQ # 139: Why can't we do illegal things here?

Tongue wrestling. It's not what you think. And here, take this tiny ad. You'll need it.
