Generics in class declaration

Hi all,
Could anybody tell me , why this code does not compile?

  import java.util.*;
class GenTest<T super Integer> { 
 
  T num; 
 
  public T checkNumber(T n) { 
 
   return n; 
 
  }   
public static void main(String[] args){
GenTest<Integer> gt = new GenTest<Integer>();  
}
}   

If I change the it like this

 class GenTest<T [B]extends[/B] Integer>

it compiles...what's wrong in above declaration then?
