Hi
Can anyone tell me,
the CD comes with the Library K&B book says about single user and multiple users license.
whatever it may be it will be used by many borrowers right?
then how about the license?
is it illegal copying some of the notes from the CD.
pls confirm.

Thanks

I'll bring your question to the notice of one of the authors...

"is it illegal copying some of the notes from the CD."

yes.

i'm not a legal expert by any means, and the laws will vary from country to country. I'd be willing to bet that copying the entire CD, or even large chunks is illegal everywhere.

However, most places do allow for 'free and fair use'. copying a little bit here and there, and I mean a sentence or two, possible a paragraph, is usually ok, if it's for your own personal use. distributing that to others is not.

I'm not clear on what you mean by "many borrowers." Can you please elaborate?

Fred is correct. All of the material on the CD is copyrighted, and, as with any such material, "fair use" is allowed. "fair use" means just what Fred said, you can reprint, with attribution, a few sentences as part of a larger work of your own creation. "Free use" does NOT mean that you can make copies of chapters or even pages for your friends. That would be illegal piracy! In our experience, writing a good technical book takes anywhere from 1500 to 3000 hours. Authors won't be able to afford to write books if the contents get stolen.

Thanks,

Bert

marc,

I think madhu is referring to borrowing the book from an old fashioned, brick-and-morter library. Therefore, many people would be checking it out, thus the 'many borrowers'

Marc,
Sorry marc for my late reply.
I haven't check the site since 2 days
I mean to say, borrowing a K&B book(hard copy) from local library which accompanied with CD.
many people will take the library, this is what I mean to say many borrowers

Fred,
I don't know what is brick-and-morter library. it is old fashioned library.

Thanks
