i'm curious about the java/opengl situation is. are folks mostly using the java3d api or java with the gl4java software? is java3d in direct competition with opengl? i know there's a battle between ogl and m$'s direct3d right now and i'm curious how java3d fits into this. thanks all.

well (if anyone's interested) after some research on the net, it seems to me that the best way to go is to use a piece of software called magician http://arcana.symbolstone.org/products/magician/ which is actually a real opengl implementation for java. your os must have opengl installed for it to work.
