hi everybody
Am aravind, ive completed SCJA last week ,scored 90% 46/51.it took me about a weeks preperation. i just prepared from the net and whizlabs simulator.
i thank all the javaranch members for helping me out with scja.

Now i want to go for SCJP. My question is , shall i go for SCJP 1.4 or SCJP 1.5 . i find SCJP 1.5 tougher than 1.4. In 1.5 i find lot of new topics which i did not come across. I have learned only core java in my collage. Not much practical working. Can i do SCJP?

Problem is that i dont have much time. I have to complete SCJP in a weeks time. Iam having placements next week and have to get my resume' ready by then.

Latest version is 1.5 so obviously it would have more value than 1.4 , but, is it ok if i take 1.4 now? , or is it considered outdated?

Well, iam from INDIA ,so any person from INIDA can answer this better i guess, but still, everyone would know whats the value of SCJP 1.4 now. So please tell me is it okay if i go for SCJP 1.4 ?

Thank you,

SCJA 90%

Hello Aravind,

Congrats on clearing SCJA.

Hmm. Going to write SCJP in a week's preparation? Sounds tough.
Considering that you have studied "Core Java" in college, even SCJP 1.4 sounds tough..

I think it wont be fair if you think you can complete SCJP in a week. If everyone can do that, there would not be any use in Sun having a SCJP exam. Think about this.

Scoring greater than 80% would do good in your resume. But my opinion is to take some time, and prepare yourself for 1.5 exam. Practice a lot. You might clear SCJP by going thro mocks. But you'll face difficulties if you get a job and start coding..

Hello Aravind, congratulations on passing SCJA.

1.5 is a clear choice.
I recently passed SCJP and got a new job;
in the job interviews I was asked searching
questions on generics and foreach loop
which is only covered in 1.5.

Besides I find generics & the foreach loop very
very useful in my work.

Congrats Aravind.

I think you can take some time to PREPARE for the exam. I would suggest for 1.4 as you said it would be easy for you by considering your time crunch.

Good luck!
