I don't think that Sun's actually ever published concrete numbers as to how many certified professionals there are. It might be interesting to see - I know that Microsoft does it now and again.

Wow, that's up significantly from my own count last January, which was (approximately) 998 million. I wonder if I missed some people.

Does that number include animals? My hamster, RoRy, is SCJP, SCWCD, and SCREWY.

Thank you. I've updated my figures. Now I'm closer to EFH's count.

Wait a second... Are we counting SCJPs in the world? Or on the world?

And if we have someone who lives underground 53% of the time, but spends most waking hours above ground, should they count as "in" or "on"? I counted this particular person as "in," since they are categorized as "subterranean" for census purposes. But I still have a couple thousand SCJPs who are in that gray area (outside of Antarctica).

Well...Guys..!

I don't think this discussion is some thing which is there in the SCJP Exam. Better we post this type of questions somewhere out side this forum.

Moderators/Bartenders,

I was wondering, how come this post still hasn't got a lock.

I think since it has some relevance with respect to SCJP, its allowed. Otherwise, the Bartenders/Moderators would have definitely come into picture to take necessary actions at the first step.

Moderators/Bartenders,

I think a LOCK is put on a thread which does not either have any relevance on the forum its been posted or require any further refreshing in case of year old posts.

HtH.

RoRy, please remember to Be Nice.

Not following this rule may result in your account being locked or losing your wheel privileges for a week. I mean it.

OK, OK, the 1.2 billion is just a tease. I have been following Java certification since about 1987 and there has never been any informed information on the numbers of people with Java certification. I think that's a shame, but thats the position.
