Hi all.The following program(below)runs fine.What I coudnt understand is,how does the main method that is Static acceess the non static method 'aMethod()'?.Is it not a compiler error when a Static method tries to access a non static method?.

code:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
public class Test {
public int aMethod() {
int i = 0;
i++;
return i;
}
public static void main (String args[]) {
Test test = new Test();
test.aMethod();
int j = test.aMethod();
System.out.println(j);
}
}
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could someone clear my doubt?.Thanks in Advance.

Hi rahul,

I believe that you are accessing the method using an instance of class Test therefore it should be fine... think about this: how would you be able to run any program if you couldn't access non-static methods from main?

Yes you are correct, static methods cannot access instance members of class because instance is not required to run a static method. Static methods can access only static members of the class

Test test = new Test();
test.aMethod();

Here in main() you first create a instance of Test and then invoke the instance method aMethod() using the instance which is perfectly legal.
If you just say aMethod() it will give you a compiler error.
Thanks
Deepak
