I always read the chapter, feel confident in my understanding of the subject, then take the end of chapter test and get a score lower then 50%. And it seems like all the answers I get wrong are due to tricks instead of me not knowing the concept, etc.
I'm wondering if the actual test is this tricky or if it's just the book trying to be overly hard in an attempt to have you prepared for anything.
what is your experience?
Also does anyone know if there are Code Based questions on the exam?
meaning i will actually have to type in code instead of simply selecting an option from a list as per the K&B boook? I just read this in the SCJP Primer link.

btw i'm taking the SCJP 1.4

I dont know much about SCJP1.4 but 1.5 was quiet tricky but easier than K&B as you knew how many you have to select !! but if your concepts are clear you shouldn't be facing much difficulty in solving K&B questions !!

Hi Jay,

All of the questions on the real exam are either multiple choice or drag and drop.

As far as trickiness goes, our goal in the book is to be about 110% as tricky as the real exam - sometimes we might be trickier, sometimes not quite as tricky - but on the whole I think that the 110% rule holds up pretty well. I agree that if you're scoring around 50% you'll need to study more - are you writing lots of little programs to test out the concepts that you're learning?

Bert,
admittedly I was not really writing programs while I was studying. but i did grasp the material (or so I thought). I have 31 days until the exam so I'll try to go thru the book again and take the exam on the included disc as well as actually write programs this time.
