hi everyone,
I've started preparing for SCJP 5 few days back. I'm referring K&B for my preparation and able to solve most of the self test problems in one go and don't feel that those problems are tough but last two days I've been solving some mock exams and my score is really horrible in those exams.
What i feel is that questions standards of K&B and the mock exams vary in a big way and the mock exams are tougher than the K&B self Quizes.
Now the question comes that how can i assess my preparation.
looking at the scores in mock exams I don't feel confident for taking the exams. I had plans to appear before 3rd sept. but now I don't find it that way.
Help me out and suggest how should i assess my self.

Hai Anuj....

Don't get tense...
it happened with me also... once you solve quizes.. you feel confident
But when you take the MockExams.. you find it difficult...

Do this way... first go throw all the questions in the mock exam once(answer the easy question you encounter in your path). and then start solving the rest...
you should remember that the questions are actually not tough but they are very...very.... tricky and cunning...
run through the code twice andsee if the signatures are correct. i.e., syntaxes of methods.... declarations, assignments, logic, etc....
then you will find the trick in between them...

them main aim of giving lengthy code is to trick to....

remember...
the large the question...

the smaller will bw the trick and that will be recognized only when you carefully examine the code...

so before going to exams... pefect yourself in basics and anlyzation of the code... write as much code as you can and...take the mock exam(same case with final exam)...

you will see the results...immediately....
remember...analyze and understand....

Some mocks will be very difficult.

But if you want to go through mocks, with out fail you need to get full grip on each topic, which makes you most of the times, go out side the boundaries of SCJP.

It depends on how serious reader you are.
If you are looking for knowledge out side SCJP go ahead read the stuff online for generics classes, methods, inner classes, etc.

Be prepared to face anything. this is one approach.
If you prepare like this you will get min of 90%.

If you are not that serious, then its sufficient to go through SCJP book.
do the mocks in book and attend the exam.
you should get min 70%. This is what i did.

Being confidant to face the exam is must.
Attaining confidance takes time depending on your requirements of SCJP.

What you want is what you get.

The Kathy and Bert study guide mock exam is quite close to the real thing. If you can score well on that then you should have no trouble with passing this one. Be confident and nail it !
