Hello,

I have been programming with java for 4 years but i'm no certified..i'm thinking to pass the SCJP but i'm wondering if i should ..because i'm 32 years old and i think it useless to pass it at that age..

I have undegone some mock and gound them difficult and tricky ..one have to really concentrate and know all the details about java 1.5..and in real life at work we don't have the opportunity to practice all java..

So ..how much time should i shcedul for preparing the SCJP 5 ?
do you think it useful to pass it after 4 years of java programming and at age of 31 ?

what is the best way to prepare ?
thank you a lot

Hi,

As you said ,you are 4 years experience in Java.I think you can do it with preperation of 15 days.

Always having certification will add value to your profile.

I suggest you ,better buy a book by Kathy Sierra

All the best for your preperation.

15 days ...!!! i would say 3 months minimum..because a lot of new things was added in java 5 ..

Yes i allready have Sierra's book (SCJP 5) ..but i hesitate to read it
..it is too big to finish in 15 days with going through and understanding all the tricky details ..

i a shcedule 1 hour per day for it ? would that be enough?

do you think just reading it would make me prepared or do i need to compile and run all the code inside..?

have any of you obtained SCJP after the age of 30 ?

thanks

Why age is bothering to you? Age doesn't play any role in study. I would say that you should have certification. There is lots of new thing have added into Java-5 with very plenty of explanation. it will help you in future.

It will take more than 15 days and age does not matter. I was 38 when I passed and I was 47 when I passed my last Java related certification exam.

For Senior people those who have good industry experience I recommend SCEA and it doesnot need SCJP.

Hi Bommann

I think you must go ahead with exam,
as you said you have been working past 4 yrs
so you have quit good experience isnt it?
its more well and gud for you to easily
clear this exam....and forget about your age
value of knowledge doesnt count on age.......
