My first suggestion, given what you've mentioned, is the obvious - start writing programs.

Even if you could pass the exam solely by reading, I don't know that it really will do you much good in the professional world to pass the exam and not have any experience with the language. Java (or any computer language for that matter) isn't really something that theoretical knowledge of will aid you in a given circumstance. Plus, honestly, there's no reason not to sit down and practice with writing real programs - it's not like you have to pay for the compiler.

If you've read the book three times over now, and are still doing poorly, doing something practical to reinforce what you're learning ought to be your first order of business.

Start practicing. The real exam is just as hard as the mock exams that come with the SCJP study guide. Work harder and take the other exams after you have practiced enough

There is an FAQ that you could refer to for such information.

However, I have to reiterate what John and I have both said - you need to start practicing with writing applications, which you almost seem unwilling to do. No number of mock exams will help you if you're not willing to put in the work that Sun recommends as experience before sitting for this exam.

Parhaps you need help with your studying skills. Have you researched effective reading techniques? Like active reading? Do you take notes of what your reading?

The exams demands that have an exceptional understanding of the concepts... you almost have to commit everything to memeory.

I hope that helps.
