what next after SCJP5

Can any one help me what should be the next step after SCJP5.

I give most credit for SCJD. Unlike the other developer certificates it proves that you can develop software, not just remember specs and APIs. SCEA (maybe the free SCEA 5 beta?) would make a great impression, but when you do not feel ready for that it is not a good idea. All the other certificates also make sense if they are a better fit to what you really need for your projects.

Or try something entirely different, like a Microsoft certificate.

It depends in what direction you want to go. SCJD is oriented toward writing desktop applications; to earn this certificate you'll have to write a client-server application which does something with a database. SCWCD, SCBCD and SCDJWS are oriented towards Java web applications, Java EE and web services. And SCMAD is about Java for mobile devices (Java ME).

So you'll have to decide for yourself which of those areas is most relevant for your job, or for the job that you want to find.

depends on what you are doing of course, but diversifying your skills by pursuing the MCTS (dev or web dev) might be useful.

i had always thought the scjd was supposed to be next, but with more web dev (maybe unfounded opinion) going on in the java world, it seems like scwcd is the next and best step to take if pursuing the java track.
