I just registered to take the 310-055 exam with Prometric. The confirmation page generated states the exam location, date/time and the duration.

The duration for this exam is stated as.... " 3:45[hh:mm] "

I dont remember the duration for this exam being this long, and if it has recently changed, I certainly welcome the exra time, or is this just Prometric's lasy way of stating the time of some exam that they sponser that has the longest duration?

What do you think?
Thank you
g

There are also like 10 extra experimental question that will not be counted to your grade. I believe you can't tell which is which. It's at the sun's scjp page, fine print. Near the bottom of description.

I wonder then....does that mean that there are a total of 72 questions, 10 of which are "experimental" and do not count towards the exam grade, resulting in 62 questions that count, or are there a total of 82 questions, 72 of which that count towards the exam grade?

And is this new? I took this exam in May of this year and did not pass it. The report I recieved broke down my grade based on a 72 question exam, how many questions I got correct and the resulting percentage grade based on the correct answers, the mathematics of the breakdown confirming a 72 question exam with all questions counting towards the overall grade. This then leads me to believe that there were no "experimental" questions in that exam that I took in May. hmmmm....

hey guys...

there are 72 questions for the exam only....
but there will be some pre-assessment questions asking you to grade yourself for proficiency on the various topics involved in this exam... the time taken for this shall not be taken into account.
the real exam starts after the assessment you provide. the time for the exam is 2hrs 55 mins. i.e., nearly three hours....

but what told on to you people must be that the whole procedure of examination can go to a maximum of "3hrs something".....

thats it... real exam is only 2:55 mins...got it...
remaining time is given for reading the rules, assessment of your proficiency etc.,,,... the time taken for studying rules and regulations and assessment will not be counted in the 3:hrs slot....

got it

Sun's page about SCJP 5 says:

Details

  • Delivered at: Authorized Worldwide Prometric Testing Centers
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Other exams/assignments required for this certification: None
  • Exam type: Multiple choice and drag and drop
  • Number of questions: 72
  • Pass score: 59% (43 of 72 questions)
  • Time limit: 175 minutes

  • As part of our exam refresh process, SUN occasionally tests new questions on the live exam forms. These questions are tested to understand their statistical properties and will not be counted as part of your final score. There are 10 unscored questions in this exam. Forty extra minutes have been added to your exam duration to allow you ample time to answer all questions.

So, normally the exam would be 72 questions and takes 175 minutes (2:55). But now there are 10 extra, unscored questions, so there is a total of 82 questions. You get 40 minutes extra time for the extra questions, so the total time will be 215 minutes (3:35).
