When a consulting firm calls a candidate for an interview they always stress on: client-facing skills, team player (in fact every one wants this), over-all personality etc etc. Well, what I don't understand very well are how does one find out whether the person is a good team player. What does client-facing skills actually mean & how does one probe for that? What are the traits that they actually look for. Well, what I am requesting is for some answers out of practical experience. Also, is there some good books or articles pertaining to this? Further, how should one go about preparing one self for an interview at a big 5 consulting firms. The technical part is over successfully and presumably the tougher managerial interview is what remains. Any suggestions & help ? Thanks in advance
Sathvathsan Sampath: I would say that 90% of the time you are going to get hit with the managerial interview first. For managerial type questions - a story related to the technical arena is all you need. For example, "Tell me how you dealt with a difficult person in one of your past assignments?". Your response would be a 1-2 minute (no longer) story. If the interviewer wants more information - let him/her do the prying. I have 4 different scenarios that I can tailor for any type of managerial questions. When you get to be a pro at interviewing - you will make some of your answers long (1-2 minutes) - and others only 10-20 seconds. Remember, it's just a game. -------- Regarding texts: "Knock 'Em Dead" - Martin Yate - is an great tool for you to use.
