Learn C/C++ instead of Java???

I am SCJP and learning and working in java almost two years. My H1 visa was approved on the basis of Java and I was expecting to join my company in USA within a couple of months but I was really SHOCKED when I received a message from company. The message says that:

Company is no more interested in Java as there are no jobs in market for Java progarammers. Although your visas are approved, stay in Pakistan or India as we don't have any jobs for u here. Market is more stable for C/C++ programmers and there are still lot of job openings for C/C++ programmers so Learn C/C++ and then contact us again.

SO guys this is really a frustrating situation and I am really depressed to read this mail.
I have invested my two years in Java and now when I am close to go there, they are telling me that they don't need Java programmer. Who is responsible for this?
I was really enjoying working in Java and its very frustrating to shift to C/C++.
Although I did C/C++ in my BCS but there is very short time for me to start learning it again.
What do you suggest me? I am really depressed? Who should I blame? Company, Sun or anyone else?

Same as "JAVA IS DEAD" "IS JAVA DYING ?" kind of messages. Beware !!!
US job market is down for ALL SKILL SETS. Not just java. If you are outside of USA, as you can imagine, thousands of US citizens and H1B holders who are in USA were loosing their jobs, its so natural that people who are waiting to get into USA are faciing this problem too.
Whatever you said about the message from the company seems to be fake to me.
So just follow other threads in the forum, then you will find this topic has been discussed here before.

If that really was the actual text of a message from a company I would be reluctant to consider working for them. A combination of wild inaaccuracy and inability to string a sentance together would be a real worry.

My cynicism tells me that maybe the letter was written by an idiot HR person who just wanted to not only reject the applicant, but discourage him too. Cruel.
I bet that they would have reversed the text if it had been an applicant looking for a C++ position.

In my opinion , that what the HR person meant was for the H1-B consultancy market for java. Yes, the market for java consultancy is down. Its not only java , but even for other skill sets.
Its a low time in US now,but things should look bright in a few months. The consumer confidence is up this month. So ,that should bring some glitter to the worn down market here in US.

I'd say there's definitely value in learing C++ and C# right now. There are so many new CS grads now without work who have been using Java, the market is becoming crowded.
That said, Java still has a long, bright future ahead of it but for economic reasons, the market will be in recession for a couple years with lots of unemployment. This will cause people to leave the field permanently in large numbers just like the downturn 10 years ago.

The message is not fake. I really received this message from company. This is not actual email, It is jist of whole message. The actual message means that what I wrote. I am amazed on this email as if you search on internet, you can find a thousands of Java jobs then what is this bull shit?
TONY, can you send me some url which shows that Java market is still good. I want to forward it to company.

All I have to say is where are all these unemployed Java developers? The only thing I have seen is that some companies are cancelling their H-1B consultants. I'm still seeing lots of job offers with big money for permanent employees.

What I have been seeing is a shift in talent from one company to another. The unemployment numbers just do not reflect a negative economy.
What I think we (the USA) has done, is panicked itself into a short term (no-growth / minimal growth) situation. Granted, I don't know all the facts - but this is just what I have seen in my corner of the world. It's also what we've been reading in some of the financial newsletters that you can subscribe to.
Regarding the C++ vs. Java posts. It doesn't seem to matter - both sectors had layoffs - both sectors are hiring. And why the heck my current outfit is hiring all of these Business Analysts for, I will never be able to answer.
I can also tell you that the automobile traffic in Denver has not gone down one little bit since I have been here - and neither has my rent.
