Hi,
I suppose, most people in the group would be aware of the Jcert Intiative - a non-profit organization formedmy major tech companies like IBM, BEA, Oracle, Netscape and Sun.
Please refer to http://www.jcert.org for more information
I am preparing for the Oracle Jcert track and have completed 4 out of the 5 tests.I would be taking the 5th test - IBM OOAD with UML, by April 2001 end.
I have about 30 months experience in IT, out of which about 19 months experience is on IBM Mainframes. For about a year or so, I have been working on Java and related technologies.Although, I donot have any "real-time" experience in Java, I have done many small assignments on my own, which has made me very confident to work on actual projects.
Some of my assignments include : Chat Server (using RMI and java.net package), AddressBook Application (with login and logout feature using JSP, XML, EJB, JNDI technologies) and Video Application (using JDBC, Java Stored Procedures, and JDeveloper Infobus data-aware controls).
I would like to obtain some suggestions from the group :
1. After completing with the UML test, should I look for a job OR would it be better to obtain a Certification on an Application Server like BEA Application Server or IBM WAS, before looking for a job.I am very confident of even clearing these tests and also the SCJD/SCEA, but it would require significant time investment.Do you consider, it worthwhile to go for these tests, without a job?
2. Also, since I would be completing my Jcert from Oracle, I am keen to work on Oracle-Java Technologies.Would like to know how Oracle is faring in the middle-tier segment in US and outside US?
3. I had always wanted to club my experience together.Since I have about 19 months experience on Mainframes and an also very confident in Java, I always wanted to explore the possibility of working on projects which involved Legacy(Mainframe applications) to web (Java) conversions. If I want to be into such projects, what whould I need to do?
Regards,
Sandeep
