Well, today I got my first Java job. With no previous commercial experience, only B.S. in EE (obtained 7 years ago) and SCJP with 94% in April. I was searching for a job exactly two weeks.
This was my first interview I ever had as a programmer. And I just got there out of the rest 50 candidates, wow ! Starting on Monday. Actually feel confused and overhelmed. Dont know how it goes first days. I'll try to post here if someone is interested.
They told me (Norvegian company, doing projects in Europe, UK and USA) they were impressed with ability to communicate on a professional level (all my previous experiences are from management and international trade fields), as well as ability to self prepare to SCJP and pass it with a good score and because of my web site.
SCJP does help and is really useful if you are new to a industry. Without SCJP behind, I wouldn't be there, that's for sure.
So, all you, switching fields or trying to enter industry, grab SCJP if you can and be patient.
P.S.
if you wanna take a look at my website it's here http://www.webappcabaret.com/theyap/

hi,
correct me if there are some Indians out there who are "currently working in India". SCJP does'nt get you a job in India in most of the cases.
I was SCJP when i got into Java and they did'nt even notice that on my resume. This has been the case with many of my friends.
But it sure does get you lots of US job offers. I agreee right now even SCJP does'nt help much in US too.

good for you raimondas! glad to year the news.
can you tell us about what salary you managed?
i looked at your site. i had to go for the non-
java version b/c my browser (beos netpositive)
doesn't do java. once the page loaded, i couldn't
access any of the links (learning java, gallery, etc.),
and also, nothing came up on the left side of the
screen.
good luck with your new job! (and tell us all about it )

Hi Gabriele,
wery strange, I tested site many times with NN 4.7, IE 5.0 and
Netscape 6. Works perfectly. "No Java" version is just plain HTML, should work with any browser. I'll see what it is Netpositive (do not have BeOS).
I recently had problems but those were because of webappcabaret, now it seems fixed.
Salary is of local standard (I'm in Lithuania) and would say you nothing but good here+benefits (free pizza and Coke during the day, life insurance etc). This is Norvegian company based in Oslo. They have "main kitchen" here due to cheaper work force. I'll be "dropped" right into new project for big shipbuilding company in San Francisko. Basically JSP, JDBC, Beans, servlets.
Just don't know what it looks like - "commercial programming".
Will see next week.

The SCJP got me a Java programming job too, although it was within the same company. That might seem too easy but my my point is, I wouldn't have got the job if I hadn't taken the exam - and today I'd still be working with what I was working with before.
