Hey ranchers,

I need some suggestions on how to know, of being ready for the SCJP 1.5 exam.

My story: I have started reading K&B book, and it took me vaguely 17 days to complete first two chapters. Disappointed at the slowness, I have taken half days for work to study for the exam and completed the book in the next 5,6 days. Then gave some mock exams as listed in JavaRanch SCJP FAQ mock tests and planned to give the exam this very month. Then one fine Sunday I when I took a full-length mock exam, I got a meagre 57%. I was shocked, but taking home the point, there are more things I need to know/practice.
So I planned to postpone my exam to next month.

I was in a dilemma, giving all the available mock exams listed out there makes me a well-prepared guy?
What is the best way to prepare for SCJP 1.5 in a full-fledged manner, and how do I know that I am ready to take on the exam?

I sat for exam today and passed with 95%. It took a little more than 3months for me to prepare, of course the effort was distributed over this time. But i utilized this easter week and studied for the entire week. After I have completed my first pass of studying the K&B book I sat for the model test that comes with the CD and got around 64/65%. I revised the book another time and took the self tests at the end of each chapters. Got >90% in almost every chapter except for threads and assertions. So studied these two chapter again for two days and then took every self test again. Then I know I was ready for the exam. :-)

Hi Shafi,

Thats a dream score.

I got your point, of being thorough with what we learned in K&B book.

But when I have taken some mock exams, I have come across several questions which I felt very tough i.e., unless I come across a similar question previously and answered it, there is no way I could have answered them.

Here is one such question from John Meyer's SCJP 1.5 Mock exam.

If find generics understandable, but at the same time, seeing questions like these I get scared.

But do the questions on the real exam would be as tough?
