Happened to me and lots of my coworkers earlier this year in big corporation (sorry, no names) in NYC. First, they fired those consultants whose rate exceeded some certain limit. Replaced us with H1B visa holders. Then again: group of people gets fired - they immediatelly get replaced with cheaper guys from India. And on and on and on... Now they started firing employees and same story again. Rumors are that they going to start outsourcing ALL of the development projects overseas. And I heard on the radio that US IT market is 800.000 people short this year ):. That's why we're soo desperately need programming help.

John, No, forget sunday papers. I was looking through Sundays NY Times + Star Ledger(NJ paper) for a couple of weeks - no leads whatsoever. Just some templates from different agencies promising you great position + signing bonus, then asking for your resume, filing it and then... I know there's nothing wrong with my resume - being an independant consultant my whole career kind of lets you brush up on resume building skills. They just got nothing and they wait for a market warmup. You can try your old leads(even though all of mine stopped promising anything.) Who knows when it'll end. Let's hope soon. No; it seems that a lot of people are publishing (probably poor) books on Java just to capitalize on the demand that there was a year ago. Hoping that poor souls will buy them thinking that they will get a job without experience this year. Which was NOT the situation a year ago but I digress... How can anyone judge the Java hiring market by looking at the stands in Borders? LOOK at the want ads instead! You're welcome.
