If you are beginner It will be better for you If you read Head first java-Edition 2 and then you can switch to Khalid Mughal

Hi
I have read kaithe sierra and khalid muggal both. You can got with anyone. I guess Khalid doesnt have for 5.0 only kathy sierra is available for 5.0
For jdk6.0 i dont know .

You can go through Complete reference Java by Herbert Schildt, best book for beginners, then Head First and then any other will do
