I am looking forward to appear for SCJP 1.5 in a month or so. I am done with Head First Java by Kathy and Bert. It has been a smooth journey till now( thanks to Kathy and Bert!). What should be the next step in my preparation? I see there is a SCJP Study Guide by Kathy and Berts avalaible and also there is an Exam Simulator from Whizlabs. What would be a good choice? I am a beginner.

Head First is a great introductory book. The SCJP exam focuses on a lot of details, you will probably need a good SCJP study guide (like K&B's).

Hi,
Head first is good for beginers...once you have the basics in place(if at all you are new to java environment) the next thing is to get started with Kathy Sierra book. It hass all that you need for getting through the exam. Finally you can have a walk through the examples and question provided in khalid mughal.
Wizlabs is a good one. There are others also. But atleast going through a simulator is a must if att all you want to be on the safer side and want to give your preparation a look.

Thanks,
Sandip

If you have good experience in java try all the free mock exams. No need to buy anything else. If you are less confident on the concepts then buy jqplus from enthuware. It contains tons of questions and will save you time in looking for right answers and explanations.

I believe that "Head First Java", although an excellent book for beginners, is not enough to get you through the exam. You should read at least the SCJP Study Guide before thinking of taking it.

Hi Sandeep

In my opinion it is better to follow one book be it K&B or Khalid Mughal so that one will not get confused as every author explains a concept in his own way.

Kind Regards
Kris

The study guide you mentioned is pretty good. As for an exam simulator you can try the various ones out there. You should also try the mock test that comes with the SCJP study guide. Its pretty close to the real thing
