Actually, its more like $49, i paid around �30 for scja, but it depends on the product. Be warned if your getting the scja pack, its not great. Before you buy try uCertify, i think its a litle cheaper and a nice product. www.ucertify.com

I have a question regarding the companies mentioned in this thread. I would like to purchase some test preparation materials and I am unsure what company to buy from. What I feel like I really need is mock exams that offer the ability to see what you did wrong. I love the section of the K&B book (Self test answers) where they explain why wrong choices are wrong and why correct choices are correct. What I find useless for preparation purposes is the practice exam software that comes with the book. I don't know which questions I got right and which ones I got wrong. Which prep materials are like the book (test you and then give detailed explanations of answers)? Do either Whiz Labs or uCertify do this?

The assertion that the practice exams from the book are worthless is incorrect. I have the 5.0 version so I don't know if the following is also true for the new book.

Use the Quiz mode instead of the exam mode and select "Open Book". That will tell you if you have an incorrect answer after every question and give you the reference.

Unfortunately, I am wholly on Trey's side: the Master Exams from LearnKey for Java 5.0 ARE useless. I have been working in E-Learning for three years (not in Java certification though - so no personal interest) and believe me, this software is really not state of the art, not even according what was state of the art three years ago.
The problem is, the exam neither gives you a detailed summary on which areas you have to train (only a summary with all questions lumped into a file which is not even pdf) nor lets you archive the questions with the answer variants given during the test (those are eliminated from the saved report file, only the correct ones are given).

Moreover, the hints in the open book are really not very useful and not designed with an educational aspect in mind ("Don't confuse those terms!" as a hint for OO concept question).

Some Reference chapters are plainly taken from an older version, they sometimes talk about statements that are simply not written under the letter they say they are. The grading seems to be correct, though.

Personally, I see no way around that lousy LearnKey software because the level seems to be most accurate to what you actually get (Whizlabs apparently is a bit beyond what you have to expect, Marcus Green's TigerTamer quizzes (which I like) are probably a bit easier. LearnKey just makes your studying environment complicater than necessary - as if the learning matter alone wasn't already complicated enough.

I have UCertify and its pretty good in terms of explaining the concept and reasoning the answers. Even the UI is good. We can mark any questions which you would like to come back and recheck. There is a Notes Maker where we can type and save any points that we like to revise. We have topic wise exams also. Its pretty good.

There aren't many rules that you need to worry about here on the Ranch, but one that we take very seriously regards the use of proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

Well I don't think that people do add for whizlabs. it actually has good questions...but I also think that you could pass without it....I am also going for SCJP and I can't buy any pain mock papers(cause I can't invest anything more than the exam fee)...I am giving all the free ones and Hope I will succeed. :roll:
