The J2EE saga in an educational setting
We are an elite educational setting, looking for your J2EE skills!
We are moving away from a Solaris environment into a Microsoft
setting, with WebLogic as our Aps server. Strong J2EE skills are the
key component of the job. EJB, Servlets, JSP, as well as UML and
Rational Rose are all important. XML and JavaScript are also
desirable. Oracle 8i with ERWIN are pluses.
You will be doing full life cycle work, with design and modeling.
Strong Project Management skills are very helpful. You will work on
9-person team, building an on-line billing system, as well as some
other internal applications. This is a dynamic environment, with great
individuals and an attractive work setting.

Geezus! I think my summer internship paid comparable wages. And this is in NYC!
And I bet they probably already received a stack of resumes.

Welcome to the free market!
The good news is, the free market punishes stupidity. The bad news is, there's a lot of stupidity in the world, and sometimes the free market gets a little backed up on its rounds. :-)

With that kind of salary for NYC and the quality of people you can afford, I would be surprised if www.macarthura.com is still around after a year.

May be we should not take job ad or what recuriter says too seriously. Two months ago, I saw a job ad at the www.washtech.com (the Washington Post) required "at least 9 years work experiece" in Java! Yesterday, a recruiter asked me what did I do at work. I answered: "J2EE". The recuriter said: "Hmmmm, this company you are working for has a nice name -- J2EE".

Erin:
I too have seen advertisements like that - and have actually responded to them. The funny thing - it's usually a junior level recruiter or HR person - who has no idea about the market.
Amazingly, they still want 3 or 4 yrs of experience for these $30K/yr posisitions.
I laugh. If the market gets that low. I will go back into trucking. My last year in that game saw around $45K and that was in 1989.
