I'm planning to take the SCJP on 11/20/08.
I still feel "not ready". I feel as though I keep forgetting what I've studied before. I've been through the K&B 3 or so times. Paul Sanghera's book twice and skimmed several times. I have the Paul Sanghera mock, epractize mocks, enthuware's mock, and K&B cd of mocks. I haven't really taken them. Sort of skimmed them now and again. Should I just take questions from the mocks and just practice them over and over? The questions always seem to take a direction I did not expect. Especially the K&B stuff. Which makes me think I"m not getting it. I can writes really simple programs, but just seem overwhelmed with all the topics. Any suggestions of what to do or not to do is appreciated. I feel almost, ready, but not really. My friends thinks so. I laugh at them. I just want to pass the thing. I feel the experience will come in time.

I would suggest that you do practice with the mock exams. They will help to understand the various elements of the language and get you 'match-fit' for the real thing. Also, different mock exams will have their own way of presenting things also which should provide a new perspective.

Yeah, hit the mock tests hard. I, too, thought I was ready and when I hit my first mock test.... I was shocked at how poorly I did. What I've learned since is that the study taught the basics of the language. The mocks serve to "fine tune" you to the tricks and fine points. I used to get really depressed at lousy scores but it finally settled into my head that, each lousy score is an opportunity to learn some of those little fine points. And, guess what? They finally do start sticking in your head and THAT is when you will start feeling ready.

Hi.,

Can anyone send links of best mock tests which are free and can compete with Wizlabs mock tests (which need to buy).

Thanks in advance.

Hey Venkata,
I have just started giving my mock exams. I have given all Whizlabs exams and one exam from John Meyer's collection. Based on my experience till now, I found John Meyer's (Deepak Bala) exams the best. The exams test you on your concepts more than the API knowledge. It's by far the best I have come across till now, here's the link: http://enigma.vm.bytemark.co.uk/webstart.html

I have also heard rave reviews abt the Master Exam that comes along with K&B book.
Good Luck!

Yes Venkata, that's the one.You are right on track. That s/w opens with a Choose a Quiz window. Under SCJP5/6, the first exam is John Meyer's, the one you mentioned. Other than that, it also has exams by Mark Dechamps, Tough revision questions, and a test on hashCode() and equals().

You can give the others a try once you are done with John's exam.
Good luck!

Joe -

I was in the same situation as yours , sort of ready but not sure .
Go ahead and take all the mocks test and time your self.
Don't just skim through it.
That's how you can analyse yourself.
And if you are going wrong somewhere, then make sure you understan why you went wrong.
And then go ahead and schedule your exam and go for it!
Waiting to get perfect can take forever - so don't wait to long.

All the best!

Hey Vidhya,
Maybe you can try the word format of the test -
http://www.esnips.com/doc/d8ea60c8-91ff-4eb9-aa28-9fc8cbce38cf/DBMock.

There are 3 docs in this zip file-Questions, Answers, and Corrections. I havent yet tried the exam, so I can't say if the questions in the doc file are the same as those in the inquisition. But, here's one thing I'm sure of - you'll love giving a John Meyer's exam
Good luck!

Thanks alot Seema for that.
The link contains 81 questions and as per Venkata's earlier post he did mention the no. But anyways there is no way to verify the questions.

Hey Vidhya,
Yep, I think it's the same one then. The zip file comes with an Answers.doc. You can verify your answers with that.
Good Luck!
