I have a scene object that is added to a BranchGroup that I can move around using its transform. What I want to do is set up an initial orientation and offset of the scene object. I've tried all morning to do this, but I can't seem to find a way to do it. Any ideas?

Zoe, there aren't too many experts on Java 3D here. If you haven't already tried, you might want to post this on the author of "Java 3D"'s forum. (located at manning.com)
