I am using the javax.speech.synthesis.Synthesizer for speaking out loud certain things. Most of the time, it's fine - but every now and then the speech just goes mute. Absolutely NOTHING else seems to change when this happens. I get no error; the status of the synthesizer object is the same. It's like someone turned down the volume.
I can get around this by re-initializing a new Synthesizer object on command but this is not a satisfactory long term solution.
Has anyone got any ideas on this? Or could anyone point me in the direction of someone who is expert in this area?
I'm thinking that somehow the queue of things to speak builds up too much but even this does not always make sense.
Thanks.
Paul

I am interested in the javax.speech package. You say it can say out words?
can you tell me how to obtain this package(url) coz it is not in core java nor in JFC. and what classpath to set.
Can you let me know where can I get the tutorials online?

All the Java core and optional APIs from sun can be found on their website:
http://java.sun.com/products/
Scroll down to the "Other Java Technologies and APIs" and you will see the Java Speech link on the right.

I got this package through IBM's Self Voicing Kit (SVK) tool. I believe that's not going anywhere though at the moment and my version is only a beta version. Last time I checked, you could only get the java speech stuff through something else.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
