May be you don't have the proper .JAR in the class path!?
Just a thought,
Ashok.

Hi Krishnan,
to work with Java Adavanced Imaging 1.1 we required java2 ver1.3, i downloaded that from sun site and installed properly and set the required class path. but when i unjar the src.jar file it is not showing that media/jai folder, is it causing the problem?

I am sorry but I am totally ignorant about Java Imaging API. But that error message (ie, class/package not found part) looks very very familiar, and so I replied. 9 of 10 times that simply means compiler/runtime could not locate the proper class files (in the classpath - as .class files or in a .JAR)
I think compiler/runtime doesnt use SRC.JAR as it is just a source archive for developers? reference or if you intend to recompile the base source. If you check the contents of the actual .JAR which holds class definitions, it should have the missing sub-api-folder that you are looking for. If not, it might be in some other JAR and you might need to include that as well in your classpath.
HTH,
Ashok.
