I've been out of work for more than a month now here in Orlando. Even the consultant recruiters are having trouble finding positions, when they say I have very marketable skills. The 6-month contract that I took to get down here only lasted for 5 months. I was cut short from budgeting and new management changes. Unless you have some very specific unheard-of skill that someome needs, you can't get your foot in the door. It's turned to all this from July where I was getting raises and promotions quarterly in VA. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to leave my position there, but I really do like it here in Orlando, FL. The Java job market sucks. I need to expand my search out to Tampa, since I see more postings there, but that's a 2-hour commute daily. I just needed to rant a bit. If anyone has a lead in Orlando, please let me know... Thanks,
Hi John, You are frustrated just after a month of job search.....what do say about me then? I have been looking for a java job since the last 5 months. My company engaged in B2B development shut its doors after Sept 11. I have applied for jobs all over US since then, but i have had no reponse worth mentioning . Infact for java jobs that i have applied , i have none i can say. Truly the market sucks and it sucks the hope out of you.....wonder when times will change!! Rajesh (SCJP2)
I hear what you are saying, but I still have some faith that I will find something here. I just bought and fixed up a new house here and would hate to have to move. The whole reason I left from N Va was to live in central Florida. I would not like that idea of moving when I've only been here for 6 months. I have expanded my range both in distance and in technology experience (because I'm an excellent C programmer also), so if I'm resourceful enough, the right job will cross my path.
