I started learning Java Mail using the above products. As suggested I downloaded the above from Jakarta Apache and when I run the --->run.bat in the --->Pheonix directory ---->bin sub directory, the dos window is getting closed.

Any one faced this problem?
what is the SMTP/POP/IMAP server they used for Java Mail to learn on a standalone computer?

Whatever server you have avaliable. If you are using James, then you have your server. If you don't have access to one, there is a product called "Dumbster" which is a test harness for Java Mail code. Basically it doesn't generate emails, but it does log the SMTP messages you are generating from your Java Mail code so you can see if you are getting it right. Sorry, I can't remember the URL for this product - but you should turn something up by Googling.

the dos window is getting closed.

Run the batch file from the command line (don't just double click on it) and change the Java options to use the -verbose flag. That should turn up a more useful message than just seeing the window close.
