I generated e-mails using javax.mail.* and SMTP Transport.
When the recipient opens the mail, the sender receives a 'Read Confirmation' notice. This is undesirable.
What causes that ? Is there ways to turn it off from Java API ?
Thanks,

No. Read receipts are not a required part of SMTP, so JavaMail's SMPT Transport stuff can't guarentee any influence over them.

Paul,
Thanks for the insight.
In addition to asking the Exchange/SMPT admin for help, I am still looking for a programatic solution.
I wonder if that attribute is kept some where in one of the headers, that JavaMail can parse and allow us to get/set.
Another fact that puzzles me is if use my own email address for the 'From' address, I do not get the 'Read Confirmation' notice when the recipient opens the mail. I can't help but thinking that there is a particular set up with the production e-mail'From' address that causes the problem.
Any thought ?
Thanks all,
Nhan

From what you have said I'd imagine read receipts are some setting for the user on the Exchange server (they would have to be, since JavaMail ahs no knowledge of how you've set up Outlook). Asking for confirmation must be a text based flag somewhere - since I get them from Lotus users I send mail too, as well as Exchange users. But what it is, I'm afraid I can't tell you. An Exchange admin should be able to though.
