I have a task to add a logger in Java application. I got recommendation for log4j. Do I have any other options like Java logging package or other 3rd parties products? Proc/cons?

log4j is one possibility, as is the Java logging packgae (which requires at least Java 1.4). You could also look into Jakarta Commons Logging, which can act as a frontend for both these packages (and some others), and lets you switch between them easily.

Thanks a lot. I think that such approach will be the best.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
