HI,
I am using poi HSSF for displaying data in microsoft excel in my application. My requirement is such a way that I need to restrict the cell character size limit to one and also that should be in upper case.
Is it possible to do that?

Please reply ..
thanks in advance.

That's not possible in a static Excel file, which is what POI reads and writes. You can use macros to check and restrict the contents of cells, although I'm not sure POI supports those.
The jXLS approach to creating Excel files (through the use of template files) sounds as if it should support macros, but jXLS can only write to XLS files, not read them.
