Hi all,

I've been truggling for a couple of days now to get javax.comm running with my 1.5 JDK.
I got it working with my 1.4 JDK, I redid all steps on 1.5 (copying comm.jar, javax.comm.properties and win32com.dll into the right places), but no serial ports are recognized.

When I start for example the BlackBox or SerialDemo app, I see that running with the 1.4 the com.sun.comm.Win32Driver is loaded, but running with the 1.5 this Driver never seems to be loaded.

I tried putting javax.comm.propeties hardcoded in my CLASSPATH, putting it into a jar on my CLASSPATH, nothing seems to work.

If any of you had this kind of behaviour in the past, please give me some hint on what I'm doing wrong here.

Thx

I have been working along the same lines and have found some odd things in this respect. If you go here it seem to indicate that the support for newer versions is limited....

I then found this site and actually was able to get comms working on my XP laptop.
If you go here you will find an alternate means:

Along with that I had to download some files here:

I downloaded the no VM version. After I printed all the install instructions and did exactly as I'd been told I was able to activate comm2 which had a RS485 connector attached and at least talk to My PLC from:

I think I was missing something in my command and I kept getting an error back from my PLC but, I was sending data (definately!) as lights were a flashin and the error was comming back which I think is a simple fix that I haven't got to yet. This PLC company will provide you with a communication program API to talk to their PLC if you buy one. Other than that it's canned softwware in JAVA that soes all the work and I have been using it with the latest JAVA distro. And without the javax.comm in my machine. So it can be done!
