Hello,

I want to get some data from a database and generate an e-book from it. The first kind of APIs i remembered for this are java-reporting apis.

I did not use java-reporting apis before. So do you think using java-reporting apis for this purpose is appropriate? Or do you think using java-pdf libraries are more appropriate. You may also think that both solutions do not fit to the problem.

What i am trying to do is to hear opinions of the people who worked with those kind of libs before and know the capabilities of them. Because this may save lots of my time.

Thanks.

Both approaches are possible; which one is better depends on what your needs are.

JasperReports (which -next to JFreeReport- is the standard reporting tool), supports PDF using the FOP library. FOP does not support the full range of PDF options, and some that it does may not be supported by JasperReports, so you should do a bit or reading on what FOP can and can not do.

A PDF library like iText most likely can handle all your PDF needs, but you will need to do a bit of programming, but it's not hard to get started.
