The Sun Docs on Model MBeans do give an example on how to create one. The example is pretty straightforward. Should get you up to speed quickly -- assuming you have a basic knowledge of JMX.

IMHO, I don't see Model MBeans as being that useful. In the past, I have ported data resources to Standard MBeans, or wrote Standard MBeans that encapsulated a resource, faster, (and probably clearer), than creating the BeanInfo for a Model MBean. I just feel that using Model MBeans is more complicated than the task that it is trying to solve.
The only advantage that I can think of, is, since the Model MBean separates the model from the implementation, it is possible to auto-generate the mbean info... but then, this requires learning another tool, and / or a metadata format.
