Look at this really cool product...

http://forwardtrack.eyebeamresearch.org/

How can it be done? I mean i have been searching for a solution for over 6 months now and still can't find one.

How can you track an email that one forwards? The Original header info is lost so there must be something else going on?

Yes, it is possible, but unfortunately I cannot tell you how it can be done -- the company I work for is working on a product that uses something similar.

You are right, it's not in the headers.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Right on the front page is a section called "How ForwardTrack Works." It says, in part,

ForwardTrack allows tracking over a variety of internet media. Participants can email friends through the ForwardTrack web application, post links to a personalized ForwardTrack page from their blogs and website, or send those same links over chat systems or email lists. We hope that by obliging the multiplexity of the internet and its various communication systems, ForwardTrack will enable anyone with a good cause to reach a large audience.

In other words, there's no magic technology at all, really. Most of the messages go through their server. They probably also use "web bugs" (invisible GIFs embedded in a web page, often used by advertisers to track web users.) So their system won't work for messages sent to text-only email clients, or smarter GUI clients that don't download images.

Anyway, it's open source. Download it, look at how it's implemented.

By the way, you may not have read our naming policy on the way in. It requires that you use a full, real (sounding) first and last name for your display name. Obviously fake names aren't acceptable. You can change your display name
here.
Thanks for your immediate attention.
