Reflection in JNI

I get a reference to a superclass object in my JNI code thru getInstance() and now I want to access a method that is in the child class. How can I do that?

Can I just call GetmethodID() passing the child class name as argument and then use a subsequent Call<type>Method() with the base class reference itself? Will this work?
