Are you asking about the Syslog logging implementation? If so, this article points to it. The library seems obsolete, though. These days, you'd use log4j for logging if you have a choice, possibly in conjunction with Apache Commons Logging.

Hello Ditt,

Thanks for your reply. Shall we use log4j instead of syslog for pure java applications? My situation is, have to log all events from external(device)and internal(our NMS application). A separate file should store these all events. Is log4j is suitable for this? Please reply me, it would be helpful if your reply at the earliest.

Thanks,
Ram

Hello Ditt,

My name is Ulf.

I'm still not clear whether you were actually asking about the Syslog Java library, or the Unix syslog facility? If the former, then, yes, log4j can replace that, and it can log into its own files. But since you're mentioning "events", it sounds like you might be talking about the latter (in which case log4j might not help, although it can log to a remote syslog daemon).

I have no knowledge about Syslog, but the article seemed pretty specific that it was part of the Protomatter project. Have you downloaded that to see if it's in there?
