Hi, I am a fresher. I finished my MCA in India in 2001. I have come with my husband who is on an assignment here to NJ. I have heard that the job scene is very bad and it is almost impossible to get a job without experience. So I started preparing for certification(SCJP1.4) in a hope that when my EAD comes thru' atleast i will have a cert in hand. Can someone advice me regarding what I can do/study to make my chances of employment better Thanks
Hi ! Sunita , I am not pessimistic and have no intention of dicouraging you. But my experience is too bad with this job search in IT and especially java .I had done SCJP2 2 years back have 3 yrs of exp. also and came to canada year back.Passed SCWCD also but till date have got just 2 interviews and that too for skill sets as varied as J2ME,J2EE and whole lot of application servers. I would suggest changing the field ,i am also doing that as there are lot of veterans in the market roaming for job. Anybody who would like to share his/her good/satisfying experience with job search. Probably that can boost morale of people like me and new enterants like Sunita in north American market ? AJAY RANA SCJP,SCWCD
Manish EAD is Employment Authorization Card which you get in the final stages of Green Card. This allows you to take up any Job ( Not restricting to Speciality Field like H1-B Visa ). Correct me if I am wrong. Best of Luck Sunitha Jyothi

In India it is like all major companies send their people on onsite projects. My husband is on L1 visa and I am on L2 visa. EAD is Employment Authorization Document, which on getting I am eligible to apply for a job.. Perhaps with lot of outsourcing I will find better luck once I go back to India after my husband finishes his assignment...

What alternative field is there? I have basically done my BSc as well as MCA in computers. Now I am feeling computers is not a good field to be in now...
Hi Sunita, Thanks for the info. If you have done your undergraduate as well as PG degree in computers, I personally would suggest you not to change your field. I don't know much abt US, but I'd say hang on, keep trying; you'll have sth better coming your way. Meanwhile, you can perhaps try sth on your own (create few servlets, JSPs), create your impresive profile and host it on free hosts such as mycgiserver.com, geocities.com etc. That will keep you in touch with theses technologies and will also give some assurance to the potential employer that you're indeed keen and willing to take initiative. Don't give up, all the best!!! - Manish
