I am having some problems with a program I am writing. It is for a class project. I am required to make an applet that allows a user to enter information about a person (first name, last name, date of birth, address, city, state, zip, phone). There is an array with 10-indexes for each piece of data. I have fullfilled the requirements of allowing the user to submit the data, sort it, display all the people entered, search for people, and delete a record.
In the interest of learning I have added data type validations, and am trying to add the ability to save the data to a file, and open files to display data. I get a long error message whenever I try to save to file. Through adding test ouputs I have figured out that the error occurs when I declare my JFileChooser. But I cannot figure out what the problem is. All the arrays and such are class scope variables. I'm cutting and pasting my code here so you can see it. Thank in advance for any help anyone can offer.
Here is my imports and my open file code:

Hi Robert -
I've added UBB CODE tags to your post to bring out the indentation.

Robert -
Why don't you post the error messages so we can see what the deal is?

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
