io FileWriter, caught or declared to be thrown

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hello, Im new at this. My question regards a common error message Im been receiving lately. java:15: unreported exception java.io.IOException; must be caught or declared to be thrown. This appear in several situations, every time I solve it I havent got a clue what I did to solve it. So I need help to interpret the message. Dose anyone have a minute over for a short explanation?
Thanks.

an exception is an error that must be handled by the programmer or "thrown" back to the method which has called this particular method. Even main() is called by the JVM & hence even main can "throw" back the exception to the JVM. rather than me trying to explain this to you, i'll let the developers at Sun do the honours....and trust me, they do a very good job...

hope it helped
