Job chances/areas for CS PhD in Canada?

Hi guyz,
Well, i am not CS PhD but have a dream to be
I am asking this question b/c one of CS PhD, leaving for Canada has asked me to ask at Ranch. So here it is,
1: What are the job chances for CS PhD in Canada?
2: In which areas does he apply for job?
NOTE:- Person is a Canadian Immigrant. Any other advices are also wellcome regarding job searching.

I don't know about Canada specifically, but typically a PhD in the US works in academia. So probably applying at a university might help. Or he might look into the research departments of private companies.
