Yes, I did check in the java.io.File docs...

Is there some way that I can read the archive bit of a file object?

Java aims to be cross-platform so you aren't going to find Windows-specific features like the archive bit in the API. If you absolutely need it, you can write code to check it in a native language, make a DLL and call it with JNI.
