If I need to send LV (like TagLengthValue but without Tag)...where L is a short (16-bit) and V is a String (array of 16-bit Unicode chars)... what Writer class should I use to send these data into the socket ?

I suppose I should rule out all Input/OutputStream implementations as these "byte streams are limited to ISO-Latin-1 8-bit bytes" (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/io/overview.html). I need to send shorts and (Unicode) Strings - so I presume I should use Readers and Writers instead....as "they can handle any character in the Unicode character set".

But there are many implementations for Readers and Writers...which should I use ?

Thanks.

Timothy, we frown upon people posting the same question in multiple forums. The reason is that there's a lot of information in your other post that people should know before answering your question and it is likely they would cover the same ground we already have. I'm going to close this topic and leave the other topic open.
